Yes as similar protocols from a connection standpoint. No because it is as strong as the weakest machine in the cloud. Yes because a weak machine can be taken out of the cloud to be secured without compromising cloud service.
That is in theory. The question is what can be inserted between the cloud communications to compromise the whole system. At the end all security is as strong as the weakest link and that weakest link is usually the end user.

That said - it's important for us humans to practice safe computing (good passwords, be mindful of where we click, etc.).
And it's important for the folks who make computer and network equipment to build them to be as secure as possible, and for the folks who put the networks together to practice safe security practices.
