Quitting smoking sucks

Sign in to disble this ad
This was not a new years resolution, doc told me to stop everything else I love about life like beer and fried food figured I might as well quit smoking too(10 years in).

Sucks 2 weeks in my chest hurts constantly i can barely breathe I'm coughing up all sorts of thick nasty speckly garbage and my wife who smokes like a chimney smells terrible lol (I made her take a shower before coming to bed needless to say I did not get laid).

Though not as difficult as I thought It'd be, seeing as it burns like hell when I try to have a smoke.
No mood swings, little temptation, definately not as hard as giving up chili cheese fries and bacon cheeseburgers

Just a little vent sorry for wasting your time.

Start exercising - it shortens the time it takes to get over the craving and keeps the extra weight off.

It helps to obsess over the exercising, too.

Do whatever it takes ot get your wife to quit with you, or you are fighting an even bigger battle. Good luck! We're all pulling for ya, it's one of the hardest things you'll ever do that doesn't involve an open wound.

My wife quit before me and she never asked me to quit or do anything different
however I noticed how much our finances were going for smokes and I realized it was stupid (this after nearly 12 years of smoking a pack a day)
so I quit ...cold turkey.. and I feel your pain.
After the 3rd week you should be okay .The fact that your wife smokes will not ease the urges but the mental dependency should be out of your system by then.

Its been 5 years since I quit and probably one of the best things I ever did
Its weird I met some friends that I knew in college after a movie and they still smoke up a storm and just being around them for 10 minutes and I was hacking from the second hand smoke. I never realized how much i was hurting other people while I was smoking.

If it becomes impossible get an e-cig. I swear by them, it will at least let you quit tobacco cold turkey, then you'll be able to get past the nicotine / oral fixation after that. Give one to your wife as well. I swear they work, they work really well, much better than imaginable in fact.

I was an on-again, off-again smoker / quitter for a couple of years. The end came when I was able to honestly answer this question: does smoking make me feel better or worse? Once I admitted to myself that it made me feel worse, it was over. Been more than 20 years now.

Hang in there bro. You will feel better, smell better, and have more money.

Thanks for the support,
Update, I no longer cough, kinda feels weird not coughing let alone if I force myself to cough everything is clear no yellow or brown nastiness.

My mouth isn't dry when I wake up,
Wife smells worse lol
Chest still hurts from time to time but my guess is there's still alot of major repairs going on and tissue shedding so to speak.

Cravings during smoke breaks (i still go to hang out) to and from work and while I'm out and about in the car still there but not terrible.

Generally speaking I think its going well, I've got a lot of energy.

You will also notice that intercourse will get increasingly better over time.

That, and you won't run out of breath. In general, quitting smoking, the biggest difference I noticed was how much longer I could engage in physical activity and not get winded. This applies to the bedroom as well. Increased stamina is a good thing for multiple reasons.

I've accepted I need to quit. I've only smoked 3 years, it's already taking its toll. The money I waste on them alone is enough to make me quit, but it's the habit/oral fixation that gets me. Every time I walk to the bus stop, I have a smoke. Everytime I get in the car, I have a smoke. And so on.

This for me is the hardest part. Humans get conditioned into routines, despite whether they are good for you or not. Reshaping the neural pathways is tougher than any nicotine withdrawal.

Now I just chew the hell out of pens, gum, and hoodie strings. Not the greatest habit, but better than smoking.

Yep Bic Pens are brutally victimized right now,
Made it up a few flights of stairs without being out of breath too.
Also discovered it was the major trigger for my GERD, no tums yet this week.

I've been getting cravings lately,....it's not so much that they go away,...it's just easier to ignore/not cave to them.

That greenish brownish ish,...that's your lungs paying you back for how ever many weeks/months/years of abuse. I'd say you took it like a man; now go eat a salad.

Nothing says "Manly" like a giant plate of leafy greens and vinegar.
