That sucks! My nickname in high school was Deitrich because I looked just like him and had the same deadpan humor.

Dietrich was my favorite character on Barney Miller.

IIRC, he was married to Diana Canova, whom I had the hots for seriously.

She was in one of my favorite scenes from the show, playing an exotic dancer who was busted for indecent exposure. She says to Dietrich, "In some parts of the world, the female body is admired and worshipped." Then he says, totally deadpan, "My place, for one."

Classic! I remember that one. Diana Canova was on Soap if I recall correctly. He was also my favorite character on Barney Miller. R.I.P....
