Aside from Miles, he was my favorite horn player. And 70 is too young. RIP, Hub.

As a former trumpeter, Freddie inspired me to play bass.

I bet Freddie Hubbard holds a special place for a lot of bass players, his music had such great rhythm.

Heh.... same here. The bar just got raised too high for me when Freddie showed up. It also made me look back and appreciate Clifford Brown and Lee Morgan all the more.

I remember Miles cutting Freddie in an interview, saying that he was just playing scales and ****. So to me, that's validation for Freddie, not that he needed it from Miles. Miles was looking in his rearview the whole time.

RIP, it is said to see musicians go at relatively young ages because of bad life styles. Not that I am in position to judge, but I hate to see someone live a shorter life than necessary.
