Sad to hear of this great studio musician, bandleader, and song writer passing on.

Heard about this the other day. Ralph is someone who played on way more recordings than most people are probably aware (he was also a gifted composer).

Awe, man, that's a drag. Ralph played on so many great tracks, where do you even start? And he was the A-lister at the top of the A-list, a quadruple-scale badass who could completely incite a booty-shaking groove-fest with one well-placed cowbell. (Or, at least one well-placed cowbell per beat...there's an old story about how he turned around the lame, stagnant rhythm track to Carly Simon & James Taylor's "Mockingbird" with a single, one-take cowbell overdub.)

Saw him with Will Lee at the Detroit Jazz festival, seemed like a great and multi talented man. He wrote some great tunes for Grover Washington and Bill withers.

You have been a RIP monster lately. Are you feeling your mortality?

If you are talking to me, no, I'm not feeling my mortality. I'm just at an age where many of the people I have admired have passed on.
