i recently bought a new iMac and i want to upgrade the RAM to 4GB, and the price apple charges for RAM is a complete rip-off.

the cheapest i've found the kit (2x2GB) is $96.00, from www.transintl.com

anyone else know of a cheaper price?

basic specs of the computer:
20 inch aluminum iMac.
2.0 intel dual-core.
4GB Max RAM

I'm guessing the Mac uses DDR2 RAM.
You can try your luck with Newegg.com
I believe I saw a 2x2GB for $109.99 or something.

That's the only site I use.

Try Amazon, too.
try this

$96.00 is pretty reasonable, you could probably find it a little bit cheaper but of course you are getting what you pay for.

I just bought a 2 GB stick for my iMac. I think it ran me about $50 and I believe I bought it from NCIX. Buying the RAM from Apple is the insane thing to do.

that sounds pretty reasonable to me. i remember about 6 years ago buying 1G for my G3 iMac for about 120 bucks! Prices get cheaper...fast! You pay the extra money over PC prices cuz it won't be a headache to install the RAM and you know it will be compatible.
