I believe the correct title of this thread is "look what colleges I might be going to!"

I got my undergrad at Cal Tech, did my masters at Columbia and did my PhD at Harvard. They are nothing special.

Exactly. Plan on applying to about 6 more "less-known" universities as well. Then remember that the education that you get at any school is about the same at the undergraduate level.

What do you want to do? If you want to be an English major, I would not suggest CalTech. Engineer, that would be the best.

It would be a good idea to give us an idea of your intended majors. Certain schools are better known for specific areas of study.

Tehuberc, I am assuming you are a junior in high school if you are asking about the colleges you plan to apply to now, in February. If my assumption is correct, I suggest heading over to your guidance counsellor and asking to see the national college ranking list. Many of those periodicals subdivide universities by area of study and rate them like that, as well. Those schools are all over the US and each will have a different atmosphere. If you are serious about certain ones, convince your parents to go visit them.

It really depends what you want to do after college.
Generally, as an effete Eastern snob, I'd say:
1. Harvard
2(tie) Columbia & Johns Hopkins
4. Cal Tech
5. UT Austin

Apply to all of the ones on your list. Add at least 5 more, including some "safety schools"
Visit every place that invites you to interview. At the end of that process you will know just where you want to be. Enjoy the process if you can. From the way you posted the question, I would not wish to read too much into what you might be thinking, but try not to sound arrogant on your interviews.

You need to give us a lot more background on what you want to study, where you're located, and what your financials look like.

UT-Austin is pretty much THE best public school in Texas, and competes on a national level with tons of other schools. Its a great school and is pretty reasonably priced for the quality of education.
