A good friend of mine is a lawyer, and he's one of the better humans I know. I also know a few that are total slime - however, they'd be total slime no matter what job they had. |

They base their opinions off what they see on a handful of TV shows. Being a lawyer is fairly meaningless unless you know the type of law they practice in. There are such great differences between different fields of practice that they are basically different professions. A corporate lawyer would have no chance of being able to do a basic family law application or criminal hearing. An employment lawyer couldn't do a bank guarantee. The difference between practice areas are as great as the different practices in medicine. Basically rating law as a profession is meaningless unless you know the type of law you want to get in to. IME - hence I gave it a 10. Out of what? Who knows.

Along the way, I met a number of lawyers who were scumballs. As somebody else said, they would have been scumballs regardless of their profession.
Most lawyers are hardworking people, trying to bring home a paycheck, to feed their family, etc. The image of the lawyer as rich, etc., applies to only a few lawyers. Kind of like the iceberg. You only see the top, maybe, 10%. The rest is invisible.
