Ray Lewis packs it in

Just heard on the NFL channel that Ray Lewis is officially retiring after this season.
I guess it had to happen sometime...........

Bass_Thumper 01-02-2013 04:06 PM

well he's given us a lot of years of stellar football so I suppose it's time.

I always admired RL as a player with the Ravens and will miss him in the NFL. That 2000 year team was a defensive force.

But didn't Ray kill somebody in a club somewhere early in his football career?

He was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Did he rat his buddies out? hmmmmmm. What would you have done?

I'd agree with this.

Even though he was found not guilty? You guys are ridiculous.

Misinformation like this in the so-called "information age" is why many people come to unwarranted conclusions about public figures. Do a little research before posting, please. Notice how no one explained exactly why they think he's such a total *******?

+1,000,000.

Ray Lewis didn't kill anyone! Get your facts straight. Dude's been a model citizen albeit a minor hiccup along the way!

bluestarbass 01-02-2013 08:18 PM

I hate the ravens and I will say football is so much worse off for not having him. Amazing athlete and amazing person.

Isn't it amazing how people can get so vocal and opinionated about something and not have the slightes clue what they are talking about?

bassplayer1494 01-02-2013 09:06 PM

He was a beastly linebacker. And even if he did or did not kill someone, he was still a hell of a player so back off haterz! :P

stratovani 01-02-2013 09:16 PM

So, what do you guys think? Is Ray Lewis a unanimous first-ballot Hall of Famer, like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady will be?

I think he'll get in first time, but not unanimous. One thing's for sure, he won't have to wait as long as Rush did! ;)

LAG 01-02-2013 10:23 PM

I repeat, i admire him as a player and dont at all hate him.
Just asking here what kind of trouble was he involved in back in the day, that he was found not guilty of?

He and a couple others were charged with the murder of two individuals during a brawl. The charges were dropped against Lewis when he agreed to testify against his two co-defendants. Lewis pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of Obstruction of Justice. Here's a summary article from when the felony charges were dropped:

If he had a good reputation, he'd be a first ballot, no doubt. At his prime, he was one of the best and most feared defensive players in the game, period.

But his reputation precedes him - he'll likely make it, but not after a few years first. Guilty or not, and even though he's done some things over the years to shed his bad guy image, some people (which probably includes some HOF voters) will see him as a murderer who only got off because of his status, and no amount of goodwill will shed the fact that he, in their eyes, did the unforgivable (whether he did or not).

"Packing it in" and "Packing it up" have two VERY different connotations, at least to me...

:scowl:

Once again, Ray Lewis did not murder anyone! It was someone from his entourage.
