RC aircraft anyone?

Searched; found nothing specific to the subject- although I recall at least one thread a year or two ago,w/helis & IIRC, some fixed-wing stuff. Anyway, I recently inherited a beginner-level Hobbyzone Firebird in pieces, have it nearly back together(lost the charger & broke the main gear trying to *cold-set* it back to proper profile), but was wondering if any of my TB bros do this?

Check with FL Knifemaker. He made a couple threads here in OT about them.

I was planning on getting a plane. But decided to get a Flight Simulator instead. Made by Hanger 9 a hobby manufacture to simulate actual models they make.
Now i can destroy hundreds of dollars of virtual planes before i get to buying the real thing.

Otherwise i have flown a plane similar to the firebird. You have to fly when there is no wind. Larger planes have the power to fly out of gust of winds. But my little plane would just get carried away, even at full throttle.

I'm more of a car basher, been pulling my hair out with this new gas 3.3 Revo i bought. My first gas car....it was used...i think the motors gone. I love it for like 5 mins, then it acts up and i want to stomp on it with my foot and call it a day.

Found a new site to drive at, big hills lots of jump. Same goes with flying. Finding a nice spot to fly at will really brighten up the whole experience.

Hmm- well, maybe we'll get a few more posts in a day or 3. FL Knifemaker's thread(the one I found)was on heli's- cool, but I am thinking it would be sweet o fly a fairly accurate scale version of something from the pre-WW-I era:

I did a little of it. Wound up with a pile of stuff but never flew much. LMK if you are interested in something, I may have it.

One of my old monster trucks. Traxxas t maxx driveline on custom LW stretch chassis. Stock t maxx weighs 9~9.5, this one runs just over 6 with a full load of fuel. This chassis design was a 3 time national champion in stock MT for 3 years in a row, then the REVO came along and shut us down. We got one (REVO), modded it and our driver took it to the national championship that first year, but it became apparent real quick we just couldn't muster the love for the REVO we had for the t maxx so we shifted to 8th scale buggy racing.

yes for sure, very romantic beautiful airplanes. I wanted to work my way up with airplanes. So i could fly very large scale WW1 airplanes.

Just to get something up to fly i was thinking of building a Guillows 200 series plane. and somehow trying to steal the guts from a battery powered park flyer type plane. to make a cool balsa/tissue model actually fly. instead of just the rubber band type. Which is actually not to bad, i have built a few tiny Quillows 500 series on rubber band. and that is pretty fun for some.
I want a electric British SE5A its a small tissue model so you could fly it indoors if you can find a good location. or fly tight circles in the park, on a very calm day.

otherwise sorry about the car derailment, but hey those things are fun too. and Fhm555 that is simple amazing car, im staring at that motor and exhaust ...and well everything. and it makes me want to get rid of this wasted 3.3 and get something going.

But yah lets stay on topic with airplanes and fill this thread up with some cool links and pictures.

Not alot of pre world war 1 plane kits out there.
You have to scratch build to plans, or try and scale up your own.

Some of the Bleriot and Farman planes sneak into WW1

there is a 16" wingspan Bleriot kit that would be awesome on electric.
or the old german dove kit which is 23"

i keep sneaking back to world war 1 because those Farman light bombers are just amazing

Actually, there is a place with quite a few WW1 kits, and if you dig it's not hard to find a lot of older planes in either full or short kit form.

A few years ago yes, Now they make some very small highpower brushless motors many using neo magnets to pack more punch in a smaller package. Battery life slightly improved and Lipo batterys give you less weight and provide more current than NiMH.

Looks like this company called SIG does a Demoiselle
, looks like the trick to hiding things is to go larger scale so a small brushless and radio pack can fit in a small tray, plenty of cool dummy motors to make a brushless look real.

I dont think the SIG kit looks perfect, but it shows proof of concept.

Edit: Now I'm seeing the pic- sweet enough!

This one is powered by a 4 stroke nitro engine so it must be pretty good sized to need that much power to get off the ground.
