Real hope for Hep C patients!!

This is amazing. I had some of the most fantastic news today and i felt i should share this.

My father has had Hep C for MANY years. He got it from a tainted transfusion back in the '80s. His liver doctor had been telling him about a program that could possibly wipe out the virus for good. In the first round of FDA approved testing, there was a 92% success rate out of the 600 people tested. My father had qualified for the 2nd round of FDA approved testing (finally) and began the program last week. It's non-invasive, just a couple pills a day for 3 months with very few side effects.

Today he received his test results after being on the pills for 7 days. He went from 200,000+ units of virus per liter of blood a week ago, to just about 20,000 units of virus per liter. According to his doctor, the Hep C virus is dead! After SEVEN #@$%&@# DAYS!!

I'm speechless. Hopefully all the testing will go smoothly so this pill can get out to those who need it. I wish i had more information about the program, i haven't been trying to dig his brain to much as he's been pretty worried over this.

YAAHOO!!

It's still in the experimental stage, not available to the market as of yet. I really don't know the name of it. I do know that he's been talking about this program for the last few years. A paperwork snafu prevented him from the first round of testing.

What great news. I know HIV gets all the news but Hep C is the one that always scared me.

My dad works in medicine and I remember when he got a needlestick from a Hep C patient. Probably the most stressful time in his life that I can remember. He got lucky and didn't contract it. Too many people do.
