As some of you may know, I am a dog breeder and trainer. I also am a big hiking enthusiast. I love to take a handful of dogs on this nice trail near my house because it follows a stream and has some decent climbs. Today I took 4 dogs with me on that trail, an 8 year old female (my main dog), a 1 year old female, a 1 year old male and an 8 month old female that doesn't get to go too often. Everything was going fine until we started to head back to the truck. The 8 month old ran full speed into a very sharp branch and sliced her face open from her eye-socket to her ear. She started to panic and would not move. I had to carry her, on my back, for at least 2 miles. It was one of the most gruesome things I have ever experienced, as I was completely covered in blood by the time I got her back to the truck. Thankfully she didn't do any serious damage to her eye, and I was able to get a vet to stitch her up. I don't know if anyone really wanted to know, but I needed to write it out to calm my nerves.

I know how you love your dogs. that must have been a nightmare indeed.
Glad she's OK.
Time now for a cold beverage for you, man, and to get the adrenaline out of your system...

I know a lot of people that would have fainted on the trail and let everything go sideways We keep a suture kit in my Jeep and on the airboat. In the woods around here, there are all sorts of things that cut the dogs. 99% of the time, they don't even realize they're cut. That eye wound could have been horrible

Just a side note, I once found a baby bird in a friend's front yard, it looked lost and also looked like it had had its tail bitten off by a cat or something. It would've been a goner if I had left it out there. So I got down and tried to catch it but it turned out to be a lot harder than it looked, it was quite active and fast for an injured little bird. But I persisted, I'd hate to have it die in pain.
After half an hour of crawling after it through bushes and shrubs, I finally caught it and drove it to an animal shelter...
...where the vet nurse told me it was a actually perfectly healthy baby bird who had not yet grown its tail feathers. It had probably dropped out of its nest and couldn't climb back up. And here I thought it was in some kind of pain. |

you have any suggestions? very occasionally i see a tiny tiny little pup somewhere in some street and am so tempted to pick him up and go home but wouldnt that be separating him and his family??? and my parents are against the idea because they have no clue how would i make the dog understand that he/she shouldnt poop inside the house and everything like this??
