I saw a commercial for this movie last night. Is it a joke, or an actual movie?

I know right? I used to love the game as a kid, but DAMNITALL, it doesn't need to be a movie, just like the fact that Liam Neeson is starring in "Battleship". Yep. Battleship.

I can hear the dialogue now:

"G7......"
"SUCKS".

Wait!!
I saw the previews to "Battleship" and it looked sort alike "Battle:LA" on water.
Please dont tell me that it's somehow based on the game?? Or am I totally misreading your post?

Rocky Socky Robots. To make it more perfect get Billy Ray Cyrus to do the score. Achy Breaky Parts . . .

Hugh Jackman is in this? Really?

So I thought the idea of a film based on battleship was stupid. Then I read aliens were involved. Then I saw Rhianna is in it. I will now stay far away from that mess...

Yeah, I was LMAO at the trailer... It's like one day a movie producer was watching football on FOX, and then saw that Rock'emSock'em Robots find on American Pickers and said "EUREKA!!!!"

Nope, you're not misreading my post. Its origins are squarely on the game. Or call it an adaptation. Or call the game the movie's "muse" if you must, but yes. there is an undeniable tie in at its origin.

I saw the preview a few months ago in the theater. It was the first time in a while that I got really angry at movie executives for clearly trying to sell us trash.

I thought Real Steel was a joke too, lol! Nope, that and Battleship are real. Battleship looks alright to me but them making Real Steel a serious story looks... ridiculous. At best it could've been like something Disney would've done.

I saw that preview in a theater with a bunch of Navy folks, and there was a collective groan that came over the audience when it became clear it was a Battleship movie.

For me, there is a difference between making movies that in theory are designed for a different demographic, and movies that are just transparently crafted out of bat guano. Sex in the City may not have appealed to my sensibilities, but clearly it had a following prior to going to the big screen. Real Steal looks like it's one part Over the Top, one part Transformers, all tied together with the the plot that could have only come from a children's toy from decades past. I don't often openly encourage assassinations, but desperately insulting movies call for desperate measures.

I just watched the trailer. It looks like a mashup of the lame romance of Armageddon (rogue-ish hot shot bad-boy naval dudester wants to date the general's daughter) mixed with Battle:LA as Relic suggested, and some other lame ID:4 crap....I was going into this with the question "ok, well..it's got aliens. But how are they gonna address the whole "shooting blind" aspect of the game? EASY! The Aliens, as shown, project a forcefield dome over their vicinity rendering our sonar and navigation / targeting useless...

THAT IS JUST SO LAME. There's the end of the movie. They make the forcefield, then obliterate our ships, movie over. But no, it's gonna be some inane plotpoint that Liam Neeson and crew will cunningly overcome.

I always wanted better for Liam. Then he did Taken. And then he did A Team. Then he released the Krappen.

Now this.

It'll be #1 for 3 weeks.

I'm not sure that's possible.

After movies like Joe Dirt, I believe that there is any audience for any movie, no matter how inane and stupid.

The difference is that Joe Dirte was meant to be stupid. These movies aren't quite aware of how dumb they are.
