Really Stupid Police Brutality

Sign in to disble this ad
http://www.bvblackspin.com/2010/07/1...ideo-surfaces/

In Georgia, a 57 year old teacher (African American) calls the police when she suspects a prowler. When the police get there, she apparently refuses to identify a man in her house, the police claim they suspected domestic abuse. Cheewiz or any other LEO TB'er correct me if I'm wrong, but in case of suspected abuse, cops are the supposed to arrest the abuser (man in this case,) right?

Instead of doing that, a cop pepper sprays the woman, then another cop (as seen on the video) arrives and tases the woman repeatedly until she gets into the car.

When the sheriff finds out what happened, the two cops lose their jobs on the spot. One resigns, and the other is fired. The cop who resigned insists he did nothing wrong. The woman now has a lawyer and is considering suing the police.

IMO, losing their jobs is way too easy (they could easily get other jobs in law enforcement.) These cops need to criminally prosecuted or least sent to a home for the mentally challenged because they are dumb as doorknobs.

Good grief. Unless there's more to the story, these guys are far too stupid and irresponsible to carry a badge and a gun.

Granted, if this woman behaved appropriately with respect for law enforcement and was cooperative, this is really over-the-top.

However, the video is obviously the tail end of a much more protracted interaction between Ms. Wells and law enforcement officers. Was she uncooperative and combative? Did she disobey lawful orders? Just because she phoned in the call for help doesn't absolve her from appropriate behavior once officers arrive. I'd really like to know what led up to this 5 minutes of video, and perhaps hear the officers' side of the story, which is conspicuously absent. There's a lot missing here.

April 26, 2010? And this is just now seeing the light of day?

None of us know enough about this situation to render a single meaningful conclusion.

The cops lost their jobs on the spot. That is a good indication how
unjustified their actions were, Electracyote.

You have no idea what happened in the 10 minutes prior to that event, so you're half-cocked.

+1 to both of these.

This story leaves out too much to really understand the entire situation.

Let's get the few facts presented straight, shall we? One officer fired, one resigned eight days later, to avoid the impending poop storm no doubt.

The firing (for the use of pepper spray, incidentally) could have been a political knee-jerk reaction from the chief of police, Cheese.

Lots of knee-jerking going on in the world it seems, Cheese.

Munji got it right. No one knows yet. Way too much info missing.

I would love to know what Ms. Wells did to get these boys so riled up at her. If it turns out she did nothing, and that she conducted herself like the model citizen, and these officers took these measures without sufficient justification or reason, then they deserve every punitive result that comes their way.

Remember the knee-jerk reactions in the case of Crystal Gale Mangum? Let's wait for the rest of the story.

Do you mean they are like a light hearted romantic comedy in which a humerous Bill Murray falls in love with Andie McDowell?

My first reaction is to be outraged and scream brutality and racism - but then again that's *exactly* how stuff is designed by the media these days.
At one time I would have fallen for it and joined the chorus of outrage, but I've started to recognize the glee that the media has in trying to create racism when it's not there, trying to create brutality when it's not there - anything to sell news and manufacture drama.
This story could be exactly how it's being presented, but I would bet my bottom dollar that there's more to it.

Name another thread I started about a police video about brutality? I've commented on a bunch of them, I think this is the first I actually started. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I also post a bunch of threads that have nothing to do with race also, but I guess those don't count.

It's already been more than two months since the incident, so it's not like I'm reacting to something happened in the last day or two. If there were exonerating info, it should be out by now.

The bottom line is that given what I know of the story, the police actions seems very inappropriate. Since late April, apparently no new info has come out to dispute the initial claims. For those who want more info, OK. I think I have seen enough to form a reasonable opinion about what happened. I'm not going to get in a bunch of arguments with those who don't see it my way. If I'm wrong, them time will tell; if I'm right, time will tell that too.

Yes, this is kind of a mystery to me as well. I read two newspapers, watch and listen to several news programs (liberal and conservative), every day.

I'm pretty sure you're similarly in touch with current events as well Cheese. I assume you mentioned this story here the moment you heard about it.

Why is this the first I've heard of an incident like this from clear back in April?

And it's not just that there is no exonerating info (for the alleged victim or the police), there is also no damning info due to the skewed and fragmented reporting; indeed, there is hardly any info at all. I read through several internet sources, and they all read almost exactly the same, exactly as vague.

All we know for sure is Ms. Wells got roughed up. There's still a lot of detail missing.

I once knew a white girl who got roughed up and arrested after she called for help in a domestic verbal dispute. It seems when the police arrived, she got mouthy, beligerent, combative, uncooperative, and abusive. Instead of arresting her husband, they left him alone and arrested her instead (the SOP for most police units on a domestic call is simply "someone is going to jail"--they don't always know who until they get there and assess the situation).

I know this to be a fact, because I was the husband, and the crazy bee-atch was my now ex-wife.

Strange things happen.

Anybody comes up with the whole story about Ms. Wells, please let me know. This thread is nothing but a sensationalized half-truth.
