Rechargable battery heating up

A regular 1.5 V battery that was in my pocket seems to have heated up on its own, it feels like it's 40-50 C.

Is it gonna explode? Should I use it again?

It's a nickel-metal hydride battery btw.

Did you have any keys or pocket change in your pocket at the same time, by any chance?

Yep, change in your pocket can cause that. If it didn't vent it's probably OK.
