Recommend a good 1st person shooter game to me

Sign in to disble this ad
I haven't bought a game in years but I think I might buy a new one for my PC. My favourite genre is 1st person shooters. I used to enjoy playing Quake2 on the PC and Goldeneye 007 on the Nintendo 64. I have been totally out of the loop in terms of games so I'm looking for someone in the know to recommend a good one to me.

I was thinking of call of duty 4 although it might push my system a bit.Which is:

NVDIA 7500 graphics card
Intel 2 Core processor @ 2.13 GHz
2 Gig Ram

So any good first person shooters new or old it doesn't really matter

You'll be fine playing CoD4 with those specs, I highly recommend it too.

I love playing games that came out like 4 or 5 years ago which I couldn't afford when I was at school.

I highly recommend Operation Flashpoint - the graphics aren't the best (it came out in 2001) but for realism, quality of gameplay and re-playability it is brilliant. If you can find it, get the special edition that comes with both expansion packs - extends playing time massively.

If you want something a bit different, check out the Thief series - sneak-em-up rather than shoot-up-em. Lovely lighting, especially on the most recent game.

Also great (although not 1st person) is the Splinter Cell series.

I don't know anything about more recent games though...

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

Free game, with low-demands for computer power. And there's always someone online to play against.

I'm still a fan of the original DOOM series.

I'm also a combo whore and flak spammer newb

Unreal Tournament 2004 is lots of fun, Half-Life 2, and Far Cry are modern classics. Counterstrike is fun, but it has a very high learning curve.

Thumbs up

Delta Force "Black Hawk Down". I enjoyed all the Delta Forde series except for "Extreme" which was completely lame.
Call of Duty 4 "Modern Warfare" but again all the Call of Duty series are good IMO.

If you play Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, be careful...the guys on their are really good. I was decent but I kept getting chewed up, it's one of those twitch-reflex shooters.

Bioshock - Easily the best FPS in the past few years. Kinda hard to believe I'm the first one here to mention it.

Half Life: Orange Box is great too.
