Recommend me an all-in-one printer, please

Hi everybody.

Some weeks ago, a lightning did me the favor of ruining my motherboard's USB ports and my all-in-one printer. I replaced my MB (and decided to upgrade my OS to Windows 7, BTW), but haven't bought a printer yet. The time has come and I'd like to hear recommendations on all-in-one printers for home use, mainly for printing documents and scanning pictures. Of course, I'm looking for a reliable and fast printer that isn't an ink hog. BTW, I only need color prints once in a while. Maybe I should move to a B&W printer?

I've also added a "brand poll" just in case I can't find your specific model recommendation(s) in my town, so please cast a "generic vote" in the poll in addition to any specific model you may recommend. I only have experience with HP printers, BTW.

Thank you in advance for your input!

I went for HP, because I like the one I currently use. (a Photosmart C6380)

I would advise against lexmark. Sure they're cheap but they shaft you in the price of ink.

Both. I don't have experience with laser printers but models without unnecessary features (to me - like faxing, for instance) can be included within the options.

that could be a problem.....electronic gizmo's sold in canook are often different from the same model sold in america....probably has do do with territory/cross border shopping etc.....so if someone outside of your area told you a specific model was good or bad,it might not be accurate in regard to what's available where you are.....for that kind of thing local advice might be best

epson sucks. i apologize if that statement offends you, but i give epson an f-.

i did vote for hp, because i have owned or used them for years, with zero problems finding drivers and getting them up and running. i cant comment on the ink cost, but ive bought two packs in the last 3-4 years (guess i dont print much... though i will do a high res glossy off photoshop cs3 every now and again...).

i own a c5100 (i think... just moved, so my printer is in my passenger seat at the moment, or id be 100% sure... 99% sure now). i like mine. its durable (survived four moves) and it scans well, and prints well. go hp man.

That's exactly the reason why I posted the brand poll. If I can't find an specific model here, at least I can narrow my choices by choosing the most preferred brand.

Thanks for the input so far, guys. Keep it coming!

If you're going inkjet, look at the ink first, find some decent/affordable ink then choose the printer that goes with it, otherwise you'll most likely get ripped off buying ink.

Another vote for hp here btw, and say no to extended warranties BS and now they come with cables, so don't buy their gold plated blabla.

HP sucks
Have gone through 3 HP's all with the same issue after a while the printer starts printing out the calibration sheet everytime it is turned on. Plus the ink carts just seem to spit the ink out when idle.

After looking through the available options, I decided to follow your advice and go for an all-in-one printer that uses not so expensive ink cartridges. The winner:

So far I can say that it has exactly the features I need, scan quality is decent (I'd dare to say it's much better than my previous printer's scans, and it was a fuller-fledged printer), fast print speed and real cheap ink. According to the vendor, the "Ink Advantage" series of printers is intended to compete with the ink refill business. The drivers and software included in the accompanying CD don't work with Windows 7, but fortunately I could find the latest drivers at the HP support site.

Thank you one more time for your input, guys!
