Hey guys,
I am looking for a new Camera, I have around 700$ to spend and I want a good camera. Please give me a recommendation, less $ would be better if you know of a good camera that does not cost as much.
Please provide a link to the specs of the camera you are recommending (If you can).
Thanks!

I've always been impressed and happy with every one of them. Even the point and shoot 995 took incredible photos. |

Either way, I'd say Nikon or Canon. I have a Nikon D50 digital SLR that I freaking LOVE, and a small point-and-shoot Canon A570 IS that's an amazing little camera for the money.

To the OP, go to www.dpreview.com. It is, by far, the best site on the net that reviews camera. It has some VERY in-depth reviews of some cams. Check it out!

Many of the pics on my old website were from the 995. I still have my Coolpix and it's in perfect condition............other than I spilled acetone all over it while setting up some photos in my workshop. Now every single button and the battery compartment cover is melted or WELDED solid. Poor camera! It would have been great to pass along to one of my kids. I cant bring myself to throw it out |

I had that cam, zoom, wide-angle, and fish-eye lenses, a ton of different filters, flash hood, and whole bunch of other goodies, all in a cool Nikon bag. I sold the whole shebang to fund my D50.

| | <- Not me I just like looking at her | | Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Cable Wi | | | You should be able to pick up a D60 kit for that money. I know Sams Club sells it for around $675 with the 18-55mm VR (Vibration Reduction) lens. That's the best you're going to do new for that money. It's a great piece of kit and its designed for someone who wants to be able to just point and shoot and get good shots right out of the box. If you want to really take the time to learn it and buy some new lenses and other cool little odds and ends you didn't know you needed until you read about them on the internet, there's a ton you can do with it. Granted its not a D200 or a D300 but its not priced like them either.
I would love to pick up a used D200 but the last thing I need is another really expensive hobby. |

I had to sell all my gear to afford a D80 for school (which I had to drop out of because I couldn't afford it). I'm slowly re-aquiring my gear.

Big, big, difference.
Personally, I've gravitated up to the DSLR and just got a Pentax K200D. Unbelievable camera. |

| | On the TB leaderboard for low talent/gear ratios! | | Join Date: Jun 2000 Location: NJ | | | Rather than recommend a specific maker's dSLR, I'd suggest looking at the lenses available for the different makers bodies to see what has the best matches for what your need(s). Then buy a body that they can mount to. You don't want to constantly chase the latest hot camera body and have to replace lenses too - that's where the real expense is in photography.
This assumes you're really interested in a dSLR rather than a point and shoot. If that's correct, it would be hard to go wrong with Nikon or Canon. If it matters to you, I chose Canon but as I said Nikon looked like a great choice as well.

I have the S2 version. It's a little bigger than most P&S (won't fit in your pocket). But it is very light and portable. It has a ton of features. If you want to start messing round with aperture and shutter speed, it let's you do that. The zoom is very powerful (gotta be one of the most in class at 12x optical) and with the image stablizer, lets you take long shots that are clear.
I've had very good luck with mine and still have it as a back up to my Pentax DSLR. |
