Avast has better detection than AVG IMO.

I can only say I've used Avast for years and have never been infected. Maybe I just have safe surfing habits, but it isn't broke, so I won't be fixing it.

I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials for about four months now. Works great for me. It picked up a couple threats and wiped them out. It put a little message in the corner of my taskbar about it instead of flashing crap all over my screen and acting like the world was about to end.

If you are one of the "Microsoft sucks" crowd, then I suggest AVG. I used to use that, and it was great.

What do you have for a firewall?

I've been using Avast! for years and never had a problem. A really good supplementary A/V program is SUPERantispyware.

I have used avast for years. It does what it's supposed to do without slowing me down or intruding on my tasks. I see AVG on some of my customers comps...and it seems OK...but I don't like the in your face notes it seems to use. I like my background programs to stay in the background.

Cheers,
BT

So the raging pomposity took over, and hordes of Mac fanboys got their machines wiped out.

Macs aren't virus free. They're just less virus prone because no one cares about them.

Right now I have the Windows Defender turned on.

I have Norton Anti-spyware, but it sure takes a long time to get going after startup.

There is also SuperAntispyware and Spybot on the computer that I run every so often.

I'm going to give Avast and AVG a look.

With a name like nortonrider, I'm surprised you aren't using Norton.

AVG is the best free protection out there.
