Recommend me something to cure my boredom

Sign in to disble this ad
I have tendinitus in my knees, forearms, hands and elbows and my doctor wants me to take some time off bass. But I am SO bored besides when im at the gym doing physio. I was thinking about video games but even they might be a bit too much for my hands. Any recomendations on how to kill this time in a fun or constructive way?

photography. sketching. clay modeling. wood whittling...hobby type stuff, things that use your hands in different ways to aide in recovery in a lower-impact, at your own pace sorta way... are you supposed to be off your feet? That's gotta be rough...

Ear training!!!! It helps SO MUCH with playing music. Even if you dont play a fretless or slide (trombone) instrument you still get a lot out of it.

And i too have tendonitis in my wrists, i use a wrist brace when i play.

Surf YouTube and make a list of songs to learn.

Look up lists of all-time classic movies and borrow them from the library.

Learn to use recording software.

Buy a cheap keyboard and learn what you can.

Keep a daily journal. Write down your frustrations, ideas, goals...

Go see some jazz or some reggae, anything different than what you play.

Read a spy novel.

Memorize all the lyrics to all the songs you play.

Educate yourself on national and world politics.

Visit old people at the hospital.

Pick something around the house that needs doing and do a completely anal, perfectionist job on it.

Memorize about 50 funny jokes and learn to tell them well. You will be a hit at every gathering.

Look up the NFL playoff games that are going to be on next week and dig for every matchup, opinion, stat and bit of trivia you can find about the teams for one game.

Volunteer at your church.

Spend a whole evening learning about tendonitus.

And get well soon.

Watch good movies and read good books.

Lots of film critics are making top ten lists right about now--check out the ones that sound interesting to you.

Pick up The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. Read and enjoy!

Also - start reading Robert A. Heinlein's science fiction - perhaps starting with Stranger in a Strange Land.

In other words, READ something!

Have you heard of the Hedonistic Paradox? Forget about yourself, focus on making other people happy and fulfilled. Teach kids, give stuffs away and things like that. It works!

The Hedonistic Paradox is a philosophical notion that's been debated for a long time.

If you have money and space, get into lionel trains... the older ones (postwar era 50's-70's), they're collectable, fun to run, and you can build towns and stuff for them too. They're not cheap though. Even one of the brand new starter sets for the "O" 027 gauge will cost you about $140-200.

Reading a good book kills a lot of time and Stranger in a Strange land is a great one! (and if you like that one, check out Starship Troopers and The Puppet Masters... classics!)

Content: you could take some time and study a new language. It's always fun and when you get your hands back you could always visit somewhere that speaks the language that you learned. Check out "The Word Brain" by Bernd Sebastian Kamps, it's a good place to start.
