Record Players

Sign in to disble this ad
As an early Christmas present my uncle gave me two record players he picked up at an auction and i'm loving them! Both had two speakers with them that connected by 1/4 inch inputs and connected all four speakers to one player and have stereo throughout my room. The only records i have at the moment are-
Led Zeppelin- IV
Doobie Brothers- The Captain And Me(new favourite song is 'Clear As The Driven Snow)
Yes- Close To The Edge
Chicago- Chicago Transit Authority
Modern Jazz Quartet- Bach On Blues
I plan to expand on those very soon.
Suggestions on some good albums to try and find?

Nothing specific, but check out garage sales- there's usually a HUUUGE pile of LPs, w/more often than not a gem or two. I have The Pretenders first, Help by The Beatles(my now-60-something-yr-old ex-hippie brother gave it to me when I was 5)& lots of others. Vinyl rocks!

I bought MJ's Thriller on vinyl a few weeks ago from the Goodwill store. $0.99.

Thrift stores are good for LPs, hell Hot Top sells more recent artists and reissues. Welcome to how music is supposed to be listened to

Here's something I've discovered. If a record was originally recorded for vinyl, it will almost always sound better as an LP than as a CD or especially, a download.

I'll never forget buying a CD of Yes "Fragile". I was all excited to listen to it in crystal clear digital. I hit "Play" and what came out of my speakers sounded like a transistor radio. The big full sound of Yes had been squished down to about 2 inches across. It was just terrible. I couldn't even listen to it. Back to the turntable, put on the vinyl version and... ahhh..

Steely Dan "Aja" is also an exquisite experience on vinyl.

Vinyl has always sounded better to my ears than CD's by a long shot. With a CD, it's as if they've cut off both ends of the listening experience and all you get is the little band right in the middle.

Quadrophenia by The Who and Journey's first few albums sound awesome on LP.

Yeah but CDs beat MP3s by a mile. MP3s make my ears hurt.

It's like whatever they cut out to get from vinyl to CDs, they did again to get to MP3s, times 10.

My drummer has a Pile of LPs just sitting in the corner of his Bungalo that used to belong to his deceased mother...I'd kill for his copy of "Over-Nite Sensation" just to hang on my wall.
