This is interesting. I do not feel sorry for Reggie Bush since he was not exactly starving and begging for food in college, and he now has a Superbowl ring and a successful NFL career. I do feel that Pete Carroll, as the head coach, should not be able to escape some sort of public shaming too.
BTW, both Bush and Kim Kardashian dodged bullets by not getting married. Kardashian would have had her trophy husband/publicity source blow up in her face, and Bush likely dodged getting nicked by divorce lawyers taking his loot!

This sounds like a serious situation to me.

-Mike | I'm not one for stripping anyone of their Heisman. That's sacred football territory as far as I'm concerned.
However, I have heard the argument put forth, and it makes sense to me, that if Reggie was getting perks then other players probably were too. That would make it easier to recruit top talent which would make the team around him (e.g. offensive line) better which would help him to play better.

That said, Reggie still had to say 'Yes' to getting all the stuff he knew he shouldn't have.

Vince Young finished 2nd that year. Does he get the Heisman? Or do they simply vacate the award for that year?

-Mike | Thing is it's not about that, it's about playing by the rules, and if he knowingly broke them, then he should be punished for it.
If the situation is as out of control at USC as people seem to make it, then stripping a Heisman from some one sends a VERY clear message to (hopefully) help curb the problem.
I have no opinion on the matter either way, but I did hear today at around noon (before this report obviously) that the committee had no plans to strip the Heisman from Reggie Bush.

The guy was great in college, with or without the Escalade. He didn't cheat to get an edge on the field, so I think he should keep it.

-Mike | Right yea I mean I get what you're saying, and I think that the committee, if they are going to take the award may be looking to make an example out of him, which is their perogative. He certainly busted his balls on and off the field to get where he got, but if he was breaking serious rules (i.e. rules that force teams to vacate games, scholarships, etc) then he should have to pay a price as well for accepting.
