Regrettable Tattoos

Sign in to disble this ad

I found this picture over on Reddit and thought everyone here would get a laugh out of it. Also thought I might spark a conversation about tattoos that either you or someone you know have regretted. Share you stories (and pics)!

That's exactly my position. If I could find something that I'd like enough to make it part of me, I'd do it in a heartbeat, the trouble is that I have yet to do so and don't think I ever will.

I get that. For me, my kids' names and my father's initials were the perfect choice.

Here comes Captain Buzzkill.

I have no problem with someone liking MCR. I just think it's very very likely that this person will regret such a gaudy tattoo in a decade or two.

My first was a lesson for sure. The guy had fantastic work ( I researched the artists in my area pretty extensively ) He was an award winner in a tattoo contest held in Reno every year ( best in show 3 years running ). The thing is, the guy had taken a turn for the worse in his life and was a drug dependent wreck of a human. I didn't know until the tattoo was half way done ( outlines done ) He asked if he could go out and take a cig break which didn't bother me at all. When he came back and started the shading I could tell he was not " right ". He dug the needle in several times because he was "ticking". He finished the shading in the body of the work and I stopped him. I Paid him half and walked away. When the scabs healed there were several largish pits where he had went a good 2mm deep and gouged away the flesh. It's since been repaired but man what a first experience.

I'm sorry, but anyone that would put THAT on their back at 18 will be very sorry they did at 30, and looking for a good laser surgeon to get as much off them as possible.

That is a STUPID tattoo.

Unless you know this person, how can you say that for sure?
Maybe those lyrics actually mean something to the person who decided to have them tatted on their back?

People have different tastes... what seems gaudy to you might be wicked cool to another.

Years ago when I was in Army Basic training at Fort Lost in the Woods, Master Sergeant Walls would say with an emphasis - "It is wrong to deface the human body" in regards to guys getting tattoos. I still agree with him.

hmmm...I dunno, I'd definitely go with the fact that the lyrics may have a special meaning that we're not privy to, but a band name? You're right in that we can't really know for sure but that always seems to strike me as an impulsive, not-well-thought-out thing to do.

Sure, it might not be well thought out, but we dont know indefinitely. If the lyrics, or that song, mean a lot to that person its possible that she would also want commemorate the band that wrote them.

Im not saying its a great tattoo, or that I would recommend someone do the same. I just think its poor taste to bring forth a photo of someones tat, like so, and display it for a laugh. I can think of a handful of tattoo's more worthy. Mr. Cool Ice comes to mind.

I know people with some ridiculous tattoos:

One of my buddies who was in a band with me, has "L" on the top of his left foot, and "R" on the top of his right foot...

Another dude I know has a plate of buffallo wings with blue cheese & celery dip on one shoulder, and a plate of a T-bone steak on the other. His reasoning: "they're my favorite foods."

Lastly, I know a dude that went and had the bumper sticker of a local sub/sandwich shop tattooed across the top of his back. His reasoning: he gets free food for life from there now, and they even catered his wedding with roast beef sandwiches.

I don't have any...I like them sometimes, but never had the desire for anything in particular.

I generally don't begrudge people their tattoos as long as they get good work done and it's not some garbage from their local scratcher. A lot of great work exists that I can respect, but that I personally won't get inked on me. For example, I think Paul Booth is an amazing artist, but none of his work speaks to me as something I'd personally want. I'm just not into skulls and demons for myself.

However, I always get a chuckle when I see this guy:

I've always considered getting the Princess from the self-titled Level 42 album (and of course, the design of the Status Princess KingBass) as a tattoo. It would certainly be awesome.

I guarantee you, many of the things that you think are awesome at your current age will seem WAY less awesome in 20 years.
