As a response thread to the prison thread below...

what do you do to keep people out of prison? I'm sure we all have ideas, probably good ones, but to keep it simple, let's avoid non-specific ones like "the government needs to spend more money".

I'll try to start with my own: nice tax breaks for large companies to go into low income areas to provide employment.
Granted this is a sort of "government funding", but it still promotes private sector involvement.

Didn't rear the other thread. The title said "lets make a mess".

How about not doing things to make you go to jail.

Violent/sexual major drug offenses are met with a bullet to the head.
Most of the prison population are repeat offenders, simply do not give them the option to repeat the offense.

So in short the appeals process needs to be changed and the government needs to spend less money on "rehabilitation" and more on lead.

Keeping myself out of prison is my responsibility. Keeping yourself out of prison is your responsibility.

Judging from my answer above, the lowest common denominator is responsibility.

I concur, sir. +1

A .22 round cost 1.7 cents. It is as simple as that.

That's the way I see it.

Really? Yup, let's give the rich even more tax breaks...then they can move more jobs overseas.

Bring back the old chain gang way of running prisons.

Remove all the comforts of home like TVs and MP3 players, phone privileges, no more money sent in from the outside.

No work = no food, no soap or water, medical, no writing materials, stamps, access to the library, etc. Just like the real world.

.22 to the cerebellum keeps the cost low so higher caliber not required. Remember, you can lead a horse to water but cannot make it drink. I remember also, back in the '80's, that some studies were done that over 20 years (1960's - 1980's) we had put about a trillion dollars into "inner cities" with no improvement. The money was gone with nothing to show for it other than corruption, theft, more outstretched hands demanding the unearned. No improvement in 'taking responsibility" or sense of morality and citizenship or desire to improve or understanding that burning your dwelling is not really very smart or that crime is not very enhancing to your life.

Pfffsh...back to the .22

Nope. Cruel and unusual punishment.

Yeah, the do-gooders SAY its cruel and unusual. Hardly unusual and such a "punishment" is just, not cruel. Imagine that-------the work you in order to deserve your food. Son of a gun---how unusual.

Well, I thought that I might get some good discourse flowing here. I apologise to all. Mods close this.

It won't matter when the barrel is pressed up against the base of your skull. I say, in this case, the cheaper the better.

For someone who claims to want to see the good side of people, you seem to post to the contrary.

Prison is suppose to be a punishment, not a viable lifestyle choice

What better way to keep people out of prison than making it unlivable?
