Resumes out: The waiting game.

So... Anybody in search of new work and just kinda hanging around with their hands in their pockets until we hear back ?

I'm kinda there right now, lol... Not sure what to really do, I'm still looking for other opportunities hehe. But it's a weird feeling just sitting here waiting for some guy to give me a future.

I got resumes out literally all over the world. I have no ties to where I live and I actually would like to move away from here so yeah, I'm in a similar boat. But I do have a pretty good job in the meantime to keep my head above water. I'm just looking for something different.

Ic, going to a new country to live would be amazing !

I just got out of college, so right now I have no job and what im looking for is an unpaid internship... But it's kinda how everybody starts, heh.

Back in December I lost my job and spent a couple months looking for work and two and a half months dealing with Unemployment insurance trying to get my checks. Not fun times when you are depending on that check for your next meal.

Ahh...been there. I took a crappy sales job right outta college. I hated it more than anything! But the money was actually pretty good. I did that for a year before making some changes.

Thanks ! I'm a sound engineer, looking for work in a studio. Even though I've got a lot of experience behind large consoles (Neve, SSL, Dcontrol / Icon) they will want me to prove I can get a food order right before they let me touch a million dollar console.

Yeah, i'll have to do that until I hear back from some studio's most likely, if anything, to save gas money up for my 40-50 mile daily drive to Hollywood / LA where I hope to intern.

Im just finished my studies too, but decided to take them further (but will be getting paid to study), so at least that is set.

Going to keep applying for possitions with what I have now, but for starting this time next year. I know too many people who have fired out tons of CVs and never heard back

Yup, around here they read them, sometimes... And if you don't follow up then they toss it.

In the exact same boat. Haven't quite graduated yet, but I've put out about 10 applications in the past month and heard back from 1. I think St. Louis is in this period where there's a blight of middle management and until they fill those positions, us entry level guys are kinda stuck.

Then again, I could leave town...

I'm in land development and was most recently VP of Land Development & Acquisition for a national homebuilder. I, along with just about our entire office, was laid off in February because of current market conditions. Knowing they were going to be cloing the Tampa Division, I started looking around the end of last year. I have literally sent out hundreds of resumes all over the US, Canada, even Europe. In all this time I've only received about a dozen calls and only half of those went the next step to interviews. There was a 2 month span where I didn't get a single call or e-mail. It has picked up a little in the past few weeks.

Thankfully, the wife has been good with our finances and we've been able to go almost 6 months with no income. We are now approaching the panic stage and I just need to take the next thing that comes along, regardless of the salary. I don't expect to make what I was making ($200k), especially if I were to change careers altogether. I'd be lucky to make a quarter of my salary if I had to change, but that would be more than I'm making now ($0).

My neighbor, a pharmaceutical rep, was just laid off on Monday. No warning, took his company car, his wife had to come pick him up. It's a tough go right now, regardless of location or industry.

We just have to keep the chin up and keep plugging away!

Best of luck. When I was playing the waiting game, my Xbox kept me company, other than the occasional side gig of manual labor. I don't mind busting my hump for a few bucks of food money.

Look in the gigs section of craigslist for some off the wall jobs that you can do for some cash.

I'm also uemployed, I was working as a IT technician for a casino when I was terminated. That was over a month ago. I've only received a few phone calls, but nothing yet. I have a screening interview tomorrow morning, hopefully it goes well. One month out of work is already driving me nuts, I don't know what I'll do if I can't find a job soon. I really don't want to go back to a crap job with little pay. Las Vegas seems to be drying up, with the gas prices and economic recession. I might have to get out of the valley, I really hope I find something soon.

Being unemployed is too stressful.

I had a friend in your situation years ago and he went around and got a few jobs doing sound at some clubs in LA and Costa Mesa picking up anywhere from $75 - $150 a night. It helped pay the bills while he was interning. He basically just walked in anywhere and he didn't have his own pa. He also did a few open mic nights (3 hours) for $50 and free beer.

not much, but better than nada.

I'm sorta there too. I'm looking for a 2nd job since my main job [Symphony Store] cuts back on the hours over the summer. I went from working 30-35 a week plus gigs to 18-20 a week plus gigs.

I've been applying since late April/early May. Have had maybe 2-3 interviews. I'm looking for another part time job-not a seasonal job, but at this point-i'd take one.

For July & August, i'm lucky. My gig schedule is full enough that i'll be able to pay my bills, but it's going to be close.

The fun part is-i'm moving the last week or so of July. Right now-that's a bit of a break for me [have a gig on the 20 & 26th]-so i'll have time.

I moved to a new town for family reasons and figured I'd get a new job within a week. It's been two months and so far:

hundreds of resumes online
almost forty applications online
registered with three different staffing agencies
over sixty business walk-ins to ask if they're hiring
dozens more applications
interviews, drug tests, aptitude tests, etc...

NO JOB

The market went down the crapper right about the time I started looking for work.

I've been doing house painting and mowing about 25 hours a week just to make sure I can pay my rent and keep gas in my car and putting in about 25 hours a week pounding pavement looking for a job but I'm getting worried. I don't think there's anything available in my skill set anywhere within 20 miles of where I live.

This truly sucks!

Man, I bet he would be soooooo glad to hear this ! But, one of my big inspirations for cheering up when I get down is CT&Birdsong... I don't talk to him, I might have messaged him once about a bass he was selling but I always, always, always see that "THINK POSITIVE" and it surprisingly helps.

For what I want to do, if you have even a little dark aura about you, you will get replaced, they want positive energy in the engineering world, you don't have to do anything wrong to get fired.

I got dozens of resumes out in the New England area, and so far nothing. I recently got my Masters in Library Science, and their was suppose to be a lot of librarians retireing. It ain't happening. Oh well, at least I have plenty of gigsthis summer. Of course who knows what we will be making after expensives...
