His ideas on the origin and purpose of art are a big influence on my thinking, quotes like "intense interest in art as emotional expression derives from wanting to see through art into another human personality: it springs from a desire for knowledge of another person" and "creative arts inexhaustibly give us ways of looking into human souls and thus expand our own outlook and understanding". He also ran the Arts & Letters Daily website that basically just posted a few links per day, but with excellent quality control.
