RIP Dobie Gray

Dobie Gray has passed away after battling cancer. Whenever I found myself exposed to the opportunity to do karaoke, my first choice of song was always 'Drift Away'. It was a favorite going all the way back to when I was in third grade, when it was new.

RIP, J. Blackfoot and Howard Tate have also died this week. December is being pretty hard on old school soul singers.

I was 12 when "Drift Away" was all over the airwaves, so that became one of those formative tunes that's deeply ingrained in my pop music aesthetic. Glad to see Dobie had a successful career since then, sorry to hear he's gone.
