RIP Greg, you brought a lot of laughs to the world.

It truly is sad, he was a great and very underrated comic. Future roasts won't be the same without him. I find it to be such a waste when people die from prescription meds like that. |

He was one of the best 5 comics around. Its a real shame because by all accounts he'd cleaned himself up quite a bit.

To be honest it confuses me when people pass away in hospitals days after their tramatic events; for instance, his overdose was this weekend... I thought that was something that would could only get better with time, not lead to death days later.
I obviously have no medical training or knowledge, and will stick to computers. |

I obviously have no medical training or knowledge, and will stick to computers. | I've got no real knowledge on this, but it sounds like he was probably in a coma (it was reported he was breathing on his own) but perhaps he was "brain dead" as they say. They probably kept him on life support until his family could be there with him at which point they turned it off and he passed away without life support. It may well be that he was effectively "dead" without medical intervention on the Saturday.
Its such a shame, he was such a funny guy and a comedian I really like, Jesse Joyce, was a good friend of Gregs and did a lot of writing for him. As Jesse said on Greg's passing: Quote: |

To the comedy community he was one of the best there ever was, and I was privileged enough to watch him do it, and honored to help him do it. We spent days wandering malls in Georgia, looking for diners in Texas, and writing jokes in hotels in Los Angeles, and for those memories I will be forever grateful. We created and laughed till it hurt at the expense of Hasselhoff and Gary Busey and Flava Flav. And we talked and debated and wrestled sobriety together. When it was on it was great and when it was off it was hard, but goddamn he was funny. I learned what to do by watching him, and I also learned what not to do the same way. He gave the best advice he couldn’t apply to himself. He was my sounding board when I proposed and he was excited about my wedding. He was there for me when things didn’t go my way and he tried to make them right.
All I ever wanted to be since I was a kid was a stand up comedian. I never wanted to play pro baseball, so comedians were my heroes. Long before I was his friend, I was a fan. And I’m forever honored that I got to step to the plate with one of the greats in our industry. I got to play ball with Greg Giraldo every night for the last four years, and for that I will always feel blessed.
Goodbye buddy, I wish you hadn’t done that. Someday you and I will have a good laugh at your expense about this **** you put us through. I miss you my friend.
Love ya pal,
Jesse Joyce |
