Longtime broadcaster for the Phillies and NFL films. Class guy, and a loss to sports broadcasting. I grew up listening to this guy. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4064793

I'm happy that he was able to call a Phillies World Series victory before he passed. RIP Harry. |

I've been listening to him as long as I've been interested in baseball and I can't imagine not hearing his voice anymore. His really is the voice of Phillies baseball.
RIP, Harry. May ESPN (Eternal Sports Programming Network  ) give you and Whitey an opportunity to once again call games together.

Very true. My Dad is a lifelong Phillies fan, and he said that only the players had gotten their rings, but not the front office/broadcasters. That's a shame, but, as you say, I'm glad he got to call a series win last year.

After hearing the very ordinary Nationals team (play-by-play guy Bob Carpenter is good, the new color guy is an embarrasment), I was so happy to hear the velvety voice of Harry Kalas, a hall of fame broadcaster; one of the best voices ever to do sports game calls. Then I went to watch the game sunday and learned of the tragedy. He will be missed.  |
