Jack Layton, the leader of the official opposition in Canada, passed away this morning from the cancer he had been battling. He was one of Canada's most popular and prominent politicians. Even if you didn't like his views, it was hard not to like him as a person.
Please keep the politics out of this one.

I read that he was working on post-jack Layton party stuff up until late Saturday. Must have known that it was coming.

Bit of a shame, it took all these years to get the NDP to be in full oposition, instead of being part of a caucus, then this. Hope his successor can hold the party together.

lowsound | I see, thanks for that. As I work in the public sector, I try to keep my head in the sand as far as politics goes; it seems to make life easier for me and those around me. Guess that I missed this one.

As of the national Punch and Judy show of 2011 he also wound up being the only serious impediment to the phony left vs right ruling oligarchy.
