RIP Jack Layton

Sign in to disble this ad
Jack Layton, the leader of the official opposition in Canada, passed away this morning from the cancer he had been battling. He was one of Canada's most popular and prominent politicians. Even if you didn't like his views, it was hard not to like him as a person.

Please keep the politics out of this one.

I was very sad to hear that this morning. I didn't even know he was sick, it happened so fast.

It was announced back in July that he had cancer again, it all happened very fast. I read that he was working on post-jack Layton party stuff up until late Saturday. Must have known that it was coming.

RIP Jack Layton. I don't know much about Canadian politics - I'm still stuck in Trudeaumania - but it's a reminder that the leaders we elect are human, and therefore mortal.

Bit of a shame, it took all these years to get the NDP to be in full oposition, instead of being part of a caucus, then this. Hope his successor can hold the party together.

I see, thanks for that. As I work in the public sector, I try to keep my head in the sand as far as politics goes; it seems to make life easier for me and those around me. Guess that I missed this one.

I love his sign off.

"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world.

All my very best,

Jack Layton"

He and his party weren't my politics but you had to admire his passion. Huge loss for Canada and the NDP.

RIP Jack

Jack was a genuinely humane and thoughtful man with few faults.

As of the national Punch and Judy show of 2011 he also wound up being the only serious impediment to the phony left vs right ruling oligarchy.

Canadians from coast to coast may find this to be an eye-opener. Google:
