That's right, the first man on the Everest has passed on

Makes me very sad and realize that the true heroes of our time aren't immortal...

I'm sure he's returning to the mountains somehow...

I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1985 in the high arctic of Canada. He and his son, Steve (I believe), were heading way up north near Alert in Canada to trek. It was a real honour.

I just read this news before I logged on here.

Sad, but 88 is a good run for anyone.

Now, he's way above Mt. Everest.

RIP.

Mike

Holy moly, the man will be considered one of the greats in mountaineering history.

Rest in peace Sir Edmund Hillary. The world has lost a legend.

Makes you realize just how much larger and more mysterious the world seemed just a few short years ago.

Just strikes me as odd that the first man to climb the highest mountain on earth lived long enough to see us send people to the Moon, robots to Mars, detect planets around other stars, be able to trace our own origins as a species back to Africa through genetics and map every square inch of the planet from orbit, etc...

Seems like it should have happened much earlier.
