that is cool.
i think it would sound a lot better* if the fretting plates were steel instead of clear plastic (at least i think that's what those clear bits are.

*at least for that song

Impressive, but it's just not bass playing without the player.

Yeah, no feel, no improv ability, nada. That being said, it does keep perfect time

I just liked that a brainiac kid did this for a final project. I envisioned it as him thinking "We'll, I can't play Hysteria, but I can build a robot to play it." Haha.

Even though there is no feeling, I think the advantage to this is that it isn't computer generated notes, but actual strings being played to get a part.

I don't think this was designed with the thought of replacing bass players, but more as a fun project to show it can be done.

I wouldn't be surprised if something like this makes it to the studio someday. Not for most genres, but the latest DJ or Rapper that wants "real" bass sounds but is too lazy/cheap to hire a studio bassist can keep somebody on staff to program that thing.

It runs on midi, so programming it would be a breeze for a lot of people.

At least it had enough taste to not launch into a slapping wank-fest.

(* ducks for cover *)

DISCLAIMER - Even though I used more than one smiley, I still want to explicitly state that I said that purely as a joke. I intended no malice or insult toward those who enjoy playing or listening to the technique. As a matter of fact, I'm somewhat envious of those who do it with such ease because I'm no good at it.
