Rocko's Modern Life.....(*and other 90's era nickelodeon shows)

Sign in to disble this ad
This incredibly fantabolous show got a little bit of run here in OT for a while. But it didn't get near the attention I felt it deserved.

So who else loves Rocko? Here you can post your favorite quote, talk about how awesome or unfunny (?) of a show it was, post pictures of your pet wallaby, or do whatever the heck you want.

I've included 90's era nickelodeon in general as well, as there were a litany of great cartoons and shows at that time.

Nothing else left to do but post one of my favorite quotes:

Ed Bighead: "You saw my wife in her bathrobe? Isn't it awful?"

Hated Rocko's Modern Life and everything it stood for... not that I knew what it stood for. I just hated it, lo l. It was weird, creepy, and only funny every once in a blue moon. Looking back, it doesn't seem like the show was even made for kids and even now that I'm older I still don't like it .

Hey Arnold was and forever will be the greatest cartoon on Nickelodeon .

Who is Rocko? Did you mean to spell Rocky, as in Rocky Balboa?

+1 on it not being made for kids, now that I watch it as a grownup...and I guess I can see where you would think it's creepy. But if you lived near me, I would force you to sit through an episode or two with me

The humor did somewhat border on 'sick' but it was a lot more tame then it's sick humor predecessor 'Ren & Stimpy'

Ren and Stimpy!
Rocko was a close 2nd for me, along with Ahhh! Real Monsters!
I used to love sitting watching Nick when my older son was little. Now I can barely stand to watch Nick for 5 minutes, and my younger son doesn't watch it at all.

Real Monsters! Good call. Great cartoon

And Ren & Stimpy was my favorite show for a while; my mom didn't like for us to watch it, though. When asked why, she would just say, "Is it positive?"

I'd run away screaming "Rape!".... and not a soul would believe me

In other news, here are notable shows that I remember as a kid ranked on their potential ability to make me puke

1) Ren & Stimpy - I really hated this show... like seriously, I can't watch it. I can't stand to hear the voices. I can't even look at pictures of the characters. I'm pretty sure this actually did make me vomit once as a kid. On the nasty scale, this show approaches 2 Girls 1 Cup. The only reason it isn't quite there is because I'm able to watch more minutes of that show than 2G1C, lol. The really bad part? My Dad bought me the Ren and Stimpy game for Sega Genesis when I was a kid and made me play it once just so he could see what it wsa like and why I hated it so much... it was awful .

2) Real Monsters - I actually liked this show and tried to watch it but doing so resulted in plenty of dry heaving.

3) Rocko's Modern Life - I don't hate it... I just don't like it. I could imagine it making me want to puke, but it never quite happend, lol.

Granted, my stomach was weak way back when and thanks to the internet, it is know infinitely stronger

Yeah, my mom didnt like Ren & Stimpy all that much either, but she still let me watch it, she just thought it was gross. Just like when I was younger and I like Pee Wee's Playhouse, my Dad would ask me how I can watch that crap.

I watched Rocko all the time! Loved it! We all enjoyed it.

I watched Ren and Stimpy too, along with my daughters who were around 6 to 8 years old....we all got a kick out of the first season of R&S, but the later ones after John Krickfalusi was deposed just became gross, not funny.

I thought Pee Wee's Playhouse was one of the most visually inventive programs ever. Also enjoyed Weinerville! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=471VpmoDSXg

I guess I was too young to notice, but I didn't know of any changes in the show.

When they started coming on about 5 years ago (I think it was on spike), those episodes just grossed me out.

Loved that show. Went the zoo recently (Southwicks for any NE natives) and they have a wallaby enclosure with a white wallaby right next to a few giant tortoises. It was rocko and filbert, back together again. I was laughing for a good couple of minutes.

I didn't have cable untill i was 18. I think i was also a little old and juuust over the cusp for the Rocko/hey arnold crowd.

When i went to friends' houses or when we would get those 2-month-free-cable-deals... i remember liking the live-action nick' shows more... salute your shorts, clarissa explains it all, pete and pete, wild n crazy kidz, hey dude, double dare, etc.

Ren and Stimpy was really the only animated show i remember, and i wasn't too into it. I think doug and rugrats were there somewhere as well...

Of the shows in the era of Hey Arnold and whatnot... the only one i really enjoyed was Courage the Cowerdly Dog.
