Ouch, been there done that, no fun. Gigging darn near put me on a morphine drip. If your doc is on the fence about doing surgery, you may be able to manage it, which is what I did (no surgery) My PT had me working out with a Body Blade and of all the different exercises, etc, I tried this really worked. I noticed big improvement within a week of daily use. I bought one for myself at about $100 and as far as I'm concerned was one of the best investments I ever made. Otherwise, if you go with surgery you should be fine.

i would love to go the no surgery route. pt is what i hope will work.

MostlyBass 03-16-2013 07:35 AM

Mine didn't require surgery and I had a torn cuff and a cyst inside the shoulder. PT worked for me :)

mike phillips 03-16-2013 07:59 AM

sounds like there is hope.

MostlyBass 03-16-2013 08:06 AM

Definitely. BUT, see a good orthopedic specialist - one that specializes in shoulders / arms / upper torso.

mike phillips 03-16-2013 08:09 AM

Over the years, I had developed degenerative arthritis in my left shoulder It got so bad I couldn't rotate out...the headstock was always in front of my face. '07 or '08 I had a total shoulder replacement. Happy ever after

rehabing from it now, 2nd time. PM me offline. I'll give you my cell and we can talk. Don't wait, get it fixed now. Waiting will only make things worse.

After surgery, how long were you doing stretches and light resistance before you were cleared to do everything: exercise, lifting, bass playing, etc.

I had arthoscopic shoulder surgery a year ago to fix a torn labrum and they also cleaned up shredded cartilage from rough bony surface due to osteo-arthritis.
