Ouch, been there done that, no fun. Gigging darn near put me on a morphine drip. If your doc is on the fence about doing surgery, you may be able to manage it, which is what I did (no surgery) My PT had me working out with a Body Blade and of all the different exercises, etc, I tried this really worked. I noticed big improvement within a week of daily use. I bought one for myself at about $100 and as far as I'm concerned was one of the best investments I ever made. Otherwise, if you go with surgery you should be fine.

Mine didn't require surgery and I had a torn cuff and a cyst inside the shoulder. PT worked for me

Definitely. BUT, see a good orthopedic specialist - one that specializes in shoulders / arms / upper torso.

Over the years, I had developed degenerative arthritis in my left shoulder It got so bad I couldn't rotate out...the headstock was always in front of my face. '07 or '08 I had a total shoulder replacement. Happy ever after

After surgery, how long were you doing stretches and light resistance before you were cleared to do everything: exercise, lifting, bass playing, etc.

I had arthoscopic shoulder surgery a year ago to fix a torn labrum and they also cleaned up shredded cartilage from rough bony surface due to osteo-arthritis.
