I'm pretty well versed in DnD 3.0 and 3.5. From there, LARP and MMORPGs. |

I also spend WAY too much time playing DDO.... |

Most importantly, have fun, and don't put a portable hole inside another portable hole.
Do you know what version he is playing? You'll at the very least want to "find" the manuals online to read as prep - but you'll definitely want to invest in the basic 4 at least to have at the table with you for reference... |

They play once a week or so and I usually just shrug the invitations off. I'll ask him and read up before going, and I'll make sure I sit near someone I know pretty well for the game.

One thing I can say for the game developers... they do a good job of making the game easier to learn while still keeping it entertaining. I mean, I started playing back when THAC0 was part of the game. Talk about confusing for a newbie... |

A friend of mine was the "DM" and introduced us all to it. Then we all just sort of got out of it eventually. I used to GM a Star Wars RPG in high school as well (West End Games edition). www.roleplayinggames.net has a nice online interface for running D&D online in a "play by post" format. I play a bit on there, since it doesn't take up much time.

It's a different animal than WoW. I've played both. I have several 80's on WoW, have a lot of the PvP gear, etc. But, I still prefer DDO. More people working together and no having to watch your back every time you walk around. |

As for having to watch my back, not an issue, I play on a PvE server >_> (Area 52)
