Anyone here solve Rubik's Cubes? I picked one up a few weeks ago, for the first time, I find it interesting. I can solve a cube in about 2 and a half minutes at this stage. It's a pretty good improvement, it took me 3 days the first time.

A rubiks cube can always be solved in 20 moves or less, not that I know how to do that. Also, I find the 2 square by 2 square cubes to be way harder.

We had contests in high school to see who could solve it the fastest. I could usually solve it in about 2 minutes but there were a few who could do it in a little more than half that.
Of course you had to memorize one of the preferred methods to solve it and then practice doing so smoothly and under pressure. A genuine *Rubik's Cube TM * was necessary to use since the cheap imitations wouldn't turn very smoothly and slowed you down.
I've seen a few stories about Rubik's Cube in the news lately and now there's a thread on it. What gives???

What gives??? | About 2 years ago they had a comeback among nerds and the movie with Will Smith helped out as well (can't remember what it was called, the one where he went from rags to riches). They are getting big again, fun little things.

lowsound | The pursuit of Happiness.
Rubik cubes sure are a great puzzle But I'm no speed solver. I CAN solve one, though. Just give me time. |

| | Not Actually Knighted... Yet! | | Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Cincinnati, Ohio | | | I got into it last year, I got down to about a minute and a half
That is using a web guide to do it... maybe I will investigate and actually try to develop my own algorithm for doing it
it would probably help to go faster if the cubes I used weren't so hard to turn...
edit: lol I actually used to keep track of my times in an excel sheet and I spent hours doing it over and over again, hahaha
i found the file and the fastest time I recorded was 1:33

Don't just turn on it randomly, think about where the squares are and where they are going to be once you turn it. Also, always keep the same side facing you, that is the side that you are "working" from. Most people work from the white side because it has the rubiks symbol on it and is easy to keep track of.
