A Sad Day...outta scotch

The 'silver lining'? I get to find a new adventure in the next bottle.

Usually, I run out about once every 4-6 months. Because of my Myeloma & hosptalization, it's taken over a year. I rarely choose the same brand twice...there are so many good choices.

We're praying for you, brother.

I recently had an encounter with a bottle of Glenmorangie 18-year "Extra Rare" and it was spectacular. I prefer the less smokey scotches, and this one had just the right blend of lightness and sweetness (in relative scotch terms, of course) while not losing any of its scotchiness. I'm like you and I don't buy the same bottle twice. However, I may break the rule for some more of this stuff.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label is a little steep in dollar, but gorgeous nevertheless ; )

Most scotch retailers have a rating book under the counter which gives a flavor roating of 1 thru 5.

I have found the 3-4 range is the most enjoyable for me. I have had one or 2 fivers that went down well but were hard-pressed to get a second shot that evening.

Don't forget all the great Irish whiskey choices.

I'll take an 18 year old Jameson's, please.

Anything less than 18 years is not worth paying money for.

On more then one occassion I have come to the conclusion that a less aged lower price scotch from the same company is better then the older stuff. It really varies, but age doesn't guarentee greatness, I prefer Balvienies 12 double wood over their 15. While McCallens 18 is a great scotch and their 12 a great value, I prefer Lagavullen 16 over the 18 and Taliskers 10 over Maccallen 12. One of the finest Scotches on the market right now is Talisker Distillers edition (96) which is a twelve year old that I actually prefer to Macallens 25 at about one sixth the price.

OTOH, if your talking about women I wouldn't pay for any under 18, but their aren't many over 18 I can afford.
