That is why you shouldn't have guns in your house.

the girl is extremely luck to survive any gunshot to the face, let alone a shotgun.

i want to know how a 10 year old has access to a shotgun.. or any gun.

Indeed.

Terrible story, luckily the girl will survive. But who the **** leaves a shotgun so easily available??? IMO, the parents are as guilty as the son in this case.

Dad just kept the shotgun laying around... no trigger lock, no explanation to the kids of just how DANGEROUS they are...

Because killing people on a video game is nothing. This would have more to do with conflict resolution, emotional regulation, parental supervision and modeling than video games.

WHERE THE $%^& ARE THE PARENTS WHEN THIS $%^%# GOES DOWN

this isnt the 10 year olds fault its the parents fault kids that young should not be unattended. if you have a gun in the house get a trigger lock or gun safe too.

Disgusting. Just disgusting.

In some cases, the parents need more help than the kids.

that's all well and good.. but you cannot tell me that there isn't a link between violent video games and violent behavior, or at least violent ideations.

i played GTA for hours when i was younger.. i eventually went on to have homicidal ideations (i envisioned killing people, just to see what it would look/feel like). i obviously never killed anyone.. but i DID go into therapy for a while. my main treatment was to stop playing the video games.

and what happened when i stopped playing?
the ideations decreased rapidly and eventually stopped.

and i haven't played the games since, and the ideations haven't started again.

So far in this thread more people have laid the blame on guns and violent video games then where it really lies: with the parents. Or the kid himself.

And we wonder why American society is so messed up nowadays. Just look at some of the pathetic responses in this thread looking to lay blame elsewhere.

oh don't get me wrong.. i blame the kid 100% and the parents 110%..
but he got the idea somewhere... and im willing to bet it was the lackadaisical ways children blow away people in video games.. in order to get money or win.

A 9-10 year old child should be able to take care of himself for a few hours once in a while. I don't blame the parents for not being at home, I blame them for not being careful enough with the shotgun.

Hopefully, the police is now the owner of that gun and any other guns they may have. Those parents have clearly proven they are not suitable for owning any.

This story is disturbing on so many levels, and I'm glad the girl isn't dead. Not only should the parents have kept the gun well hidden, but an argument over chips? They should also teach their kids to share.

Seeing that the kid shot his sister intending to kill her over a bag of chips, I'd say that's probably the least of their worries.

Threads like this just suck. Everyone gets angry at everyone else because there is no explanation for something that is just so wrong it's difficult to understand. Look guys don't get bent out of shape over this. This story is wrong on so many levels and there's not a scrap any of us can do about it. I hate seeing stories like this. I read them too, but a discussion about them never ends well. That's my two cents. I'm out of here. Love Maki.

Thx for the ignore list marking, ill be waiting for you on the adulthood hall if you ever make it there...

I haveplayed the same games and have access to guns and I have been playing a lot, i have no envisions of killing ppl... I actually am a very sensible and sane person.

The thing is that YOU cant handle those kind of games, whatever the reason is. Its not the games whats making you have envisions is the way YOU assimilate their info and how YOU DONT caethegorize that info as a game and not as a plausible reality.
