Now's as good a time as any to tell her that she needs to start hanging out with better dudes.

most often it's always from the "dirty kid" in school. So don't sweat it, it happens...unless yer the "dirty kid"...

I'm joking of course. It takes a bit of work and some proper attention with the topical aides and combing...but it's not that bad. BUT, it could take a couple treatments, dependent on the length of hair and number of nits. My nephew went through it, they just shaved his head and applied the shampoo. Careful with that, as it is essentially insecticide. But better now than when her head is uber itchy. WASH EVERYTHING.

Best of luck to you.

From the "dirty kid" ?? How about the well groomed kid that just happens to live on a farm with livestock?? They will nest in anyone, anytime even fresh out of the bathtub We've had outbreaks in the schools around here over the years where almost everyone gets them, teachers included. There's not much you can do about it as far as precautionary measures on the first wave of infestation.

Bummer! My 6 year old got them earlier this year, fortunately we were able to eradicate them fairly quickly. We used "Fairytale" products and they seem to work great! here is a link to their site http://www.fairytaleshaircare.com/?g...FQEEiQodvzTHPQ

We bought the shampoo, Repel Spray, and the lice goodbye with the comb. The metal comb is the trick, its a pain as the kids hate it but you have to do it!

Good luck!!

I didn't mention that the wif has 'em too- too late for her anyhoo.
Welp, the chief offender has been treated and combed free of dead cooties & nits; mom's upstairs combing #2. The boy & I don't seem to have them but we're just gonna shot-gun the whole famdam, twice(everything I read says do it twice as the nits hatch after a few days, and the kit comes w/two bottles. That shiite's not cheap, either- specially after you get enough for 5 peeps). WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...

Edit: We're using Nix, as the two *official* papers I got both recommended it.

Nail the house with ortho bug bombs... that'll take care of any lurking around on belongings... just remember to wash the bedding, clothing, and kitchen items afterwards. Plus, sweep the carpets really well to pick up dead lice and their eggs. Even the best pesticides can't kill every last bug.

Thanks everyone- it's not that big of a deal, just a fairly large inconvenience. The biggest PITA is the SEVERAL extra rounds of laundry and kids staying home from school until they've been *checked*- we'll see how that plays out in the AM. OH- and the time away from TB OT. I'm pretty much gonna sue all head lice in the near future.

Shenenigans- after dousing EVERYONE in the house w/the cootie-killing creme rinse, the littlest one/instigator of all this yields a live fatty. In the words of my wif, 'I feel lied to, cheated'

The ultimate shame:
When I was 9 I got head lice and my hair was down to the back of my knees and I told my mom to just cut it all off, because the little comb thing and the shampoo were destroying my hair and to be honest was quite painful. When I went back to school everyone knew why and I was picked on quite a bit for it.

It didn't help that my mom took the phrase, "Cut it all off" to be quite literal and buzz cut it.

Be prepared to shave heads if you don't get them all. It's hard to find them all with a full head of hair! Just a FYI!

Yeah, the misconceptions about cooties are definitely the insult to the injury.
