Uh, no. What is making the price?

That fridge is worth more than my car.

Edit: I have to rescind my previous reply. I went and looked and my own fridge is damn near that big.

What do you think your wife's objections will be? Hit her up the energy savings. Also, the drawers that can be reached without bending.

Meh, I have the most utilitarian fridge in the world: two shelves, one drawer two drawer shelf and a butter tray, no egg holders even, freezer has two door shelves only. It's more than enough for all my food and the vegetables stay perfectly crisp. And Im pretty sure its more than 28 cubic feet the things larger than a Coupe De ville. Does it suck energy? Let me ask my $15 dollar electric bill...

During last year's Energy Star sales and rebates we looked at a similar Samsung but ended up with the biggest honkin' Electrolux we could find. Research at the time indicated the Samsungs had issues with reliability and parts supply, so we decided to not take the chance.

The Electrolux (similar to this one) list price cost as much as a good used car, but after all the discounts and rebates it really wasn't any more than a middle range Whirlpool of the same size.

We like it.

Looks like you got a good one. The reviews are terrible.

Shop Electrolux 27.8 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator (Color: Stainless Steel) ENERGY STAR at Lowes.com

The Samsung is a lot of space for the money, and the 5 year warranty on the sealed system is pretty good, and it has a nice aesthetic. The reviews seem alright too, but it's hard to say with reviews on websites like that. I would call up your local service tech and see which brands in that style he finds himself servicing the most and consider that, as well.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the Maytag model which has a fridge drawer, but it is a bit more money for a bit less space. Although that website doesn't list that it does have a 10 year parts warranty on key components like the compressor.

On a similar note... I'm an appliance geek and would love to see a "show your kitchen" thread.

That is a fair price for the Samsung. I am trying to convince my wife to get a Thermador this summer. She wants a Viking.

Pretty much. It varies from about $15 in the winter to $ 20/25 in the summer. I don't really use a lot of electricity.

He lives in Alaska Tom. I'd guess the cost to keep things cold in Alaska is quite low. Heck, why do they even have refrigerators in Alaska?

I have a $8K refrigerator in my kitchen. Why anyone would spend that much on a refrigerator is beyond me, but I didn't buy it, so I don't care.

You would think that such an expensive fridge would last forever, but no, I've had problems with it several times. The first time, the repair guy had to replace two parts, and it sure as hell wasn't cheap.

Seems like a lot of the room in that fridge would be taken up by all the dividers and drawer mechanisms. Nice looking though.

I love my Samsung fridge, trouble free thus far for 2 years. Opted for the 3 door versus 4 door. Just didn't see the benefit for us. If I get 5 years out of it, great, then I'll want something new anyway.

Stay away from viking, bosch, dcs and thermador. They claim commercial grade, but are not. A lot of my friends are contractors so they give me the scoop on appliances.

Someone wanted the 'show your kitchen' post so here's mine.

My father in laws friend repairs fridges, and always recommend this configuration. He says bottom freezer and top fridge is best. He says the side by side ones fail quite a bit.
