Hey all,
I'm currently paying $50/month for a BlackBerry 8330 with features such as Internet which is completely useless in my opinion on a BlackBerry for the native browser doesn't even display images and Opera is way too slow. I'm thinking about upgrading to an Android phone and the three choices are the msung Galaxy S Fascinate, HTC Desire, or Motorola Milestone. I've read a few reviews, but not quite sure what to get? Any opinions? |

| | | | Are you sure it's the Fascinate and not another Galaxy S phone? What carrier is this on? My wife has a Fascinate. It is the Verizon Wireless version of the Galaxy S. The reason I ask is that Verizon made Bing the only search option on the phone, which is kind of jank. Apparently there will be an update which will allow you to install the google search widget/app, but no one knows when that will be available. None of the other Galaxy S phones have this issue, as apparently it was a Verizon decision, not Samsung.
Things to consider: Milestone has a hardware keyboard, the other two do not. I personally don't like the extra bulk added by a keyboard, and I find the soft keyboards to be more than sufficient. But not everyone agrees.
The Milestone is stock android, the Desire has the HTC SenseUI, and the Galaxy S has the Samsung UI (I can't remember what it is called). Personally, I like stock, SenseUI, Samsung, in that order. The Samsung UI is more iPhone-like, so some people may prefer it. I would suggest trying to play around with all 3 and see if you like one UI better than the other.
The Galaxy S has a REALLY nice screen. But it also has the power button on the side, which I find weird (but it doesn't bother my wife).
The Desire and Milestone both should have Android 2.2, while the Samsung is still at 2.1. A 2.2 update is in the works, but no official date has been made. It is probably not that big of a deal, but 2.2 is suppose to be a very performance related update.
So it really comes down to a lot of subjective differences. A lot of it depends on what you prefer and what you are looking for. |

I'm on Telus (Canada), the Samsung is called "Fascinate," but I'm not sure if it's the same one as in the US. I am aware, and disappointed, about the Bing search issue which is IMO pathetic. I have however read there are work arounds. The fact that I am in Canada is also an issue when it comes to checking out reviews - Telus put out the HTC Desire in July or August, the US already had the HTC Desire HD. The choices are way too limited, and it's way too tricky to buy a phone. Ahh, I wish we were still in the '60s, J bass, P bass, Hofner, or Rickenbacker? Landline phone in blue or red? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
