Hey gang,
I got a job lead in San Antonio and while I'm visiting the fam in Houston next week I'm going to make a day trip to SA to check it out. I've been to the Alamo and all the other touristy stuff, so what should I check out while I'm there to get a feel of what it'd be like living there? |

I recommend stopping at Chunky's Burgers for the Four-Horsemen Challenge. Not an enormous burger, but it is hot beyond hot.

I'm always torn between BBQ and Mexican food while in San Antone, so I compromise and have BOTH!

It's a really good quality non-chain mexican restaurant on the Riverwalk, go figure. More like upscale authentic mexican than tex-mex. It's on Houston St. right next to the Hotel Valencia and a block or two down from the Majestic Theater. It's a pretty quiet and less gaudy area of the Riverwalk. The cochinita pibil is absolutely to die for. Their tableside guac is better than the competition and the 10 Cane mojito is great.

I just accepted a job in San Antonio and now need to find a place to live. To the SA locals (if any), where should I look, which parts of the city should I avoid, where do the single young professionals hang out, play, live, and all that good stuff? My office is going to be south of downtown near the end of the riverwalk. |

I always found it odd that land locked San Antonio has a SeaWorld.

I have a friend moving from San Antonio to Virginia Beach, and she may be looking for someone to take over her lease, but it won't be till June, which I imagine is too late for you. If not, PM me. |

-Mike | Thanks! I'll be working as a business analyst for a certain Texas/north Mexico grocer that's headquartered there. I've done outsourced work for them before but since they're internalizing they thought they'd bring me on board full-time I start either the 23rd or 30th; they'd prefer the 23rd but it really depends on how quickly I can get moved in.
The land-locked Seaworld makes sense to me, since those in other land-locked states don't have to travel as far. Plus, all the rivers running in still make it a moist enough environment for the animals (imagine if they'd put it in El Paso ) Also, Fiesta Texas is a blast, the Riverwalk is great, there's always the Alamo, and generally downtown SA is pretty fun. |

check out the st. mary's street area north of downtown.
check out the gear at krazy kat's store.
check out the rivers and parks north and west of the city.
the best pit brisket is in lockhart (avoid kreuz's). southside market in luling and cooper's in new braunfels is good also.

to stay away from anywhere near the Loop 1604
and HWY.281 north area ...
construction will be causing terrible traffic jams
there for at least the next six years .

Gorgeous apartments but the noise and congestion it would cause make for one major turn-off. I signed a lease on a place near I-10 in north central and move in after the 20th | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
