San Jose cable cut caused by sabotage?

The cable cut that knocked out service for thousands of phone lines in the SJ area is suspected vandalism. And CWA/ATT union contracts are under dispute.

Definitely sabotage - they had to work pretty hard to do it.

Knocked out phones throughout the south bay area. Including cell phones - most definitely including mine.

aside from being complete a-holes- is there any benefit for someone doing this? i guess the moviegoer in me thinks about some secret spy network- or maybe a bank heist. as the article stated- this took a pretty big effort- and the fact that they cut them in several places is weird. maybe they just wanted to see what would happen and then go from there- hopefully not to bigger things.

The paranoid "just see what happens and go from there" is actually about as good an explanation as we have right now.
The other possible explanation is that there is a contract dispute between labor and mgmt for that service provider.
Either way, it's kinda nasty.
