Blah, im really scared about this. I'm trying to land a scholarship in the sates and for that i have to land 1,150 and above with just the Critical Reading and Math score. I'm aiming to get around 580-600ish on the crisitcal reading and 550ish on the Math, i can do that on the Critical reading, but math is my week point, and im really terrified about it. Im taking it again next year though.

So any tips and tricks on how to beat the system

Hmmm I got around there.
A big tip I can give you is do the essay quick as ****, you really don't have enough time. Like I was focusing on penman ship and everything. The test isn't that hard, just fast paced. I got a 1600 out of 2400 by the way so I'm kind of in your range. Also, you spelled weak as week, so I don't think you should worry about math. Hahah
But seriously you're not going to be able to go back the test is just too fast paced. And every answer in your reading should have something in the story to support it.

for critical reading take a practice test and try to answer most of the questions without reading the whole passage. It works better for me and saves time.

and for math just make sure you read the question right. the SAT is famous for trick questions.

Also, the ACT might be another option. I find it to be a lot easier and more straight-forward

If you have cash get a legitimate practice book. I took a princeton review class and my score went up around 250 points. The SAT is a very studyable test... so get going!

You only need 1150 out of a possible 1600 for a scholarship?

Just interested, why are you going for a scholarship in USA?
I would have assumed there would be some good uni's in UAE?

when i took it a few weeks ago i didn't really realize how long it was. yeah, i understood it was from 9-1, but i really didn't think it was that long until i was sitting in the room taking the test and all i could think about was how i wished i would have had breakfast and i would have gone to sleep a few hours earlier. if you eat breakfast and get a good nights sleep (not in that order...), as generic as that sounds, you're going to do better than you would if you didn't do those things like i did. i didn't do bad (1570), but i would have done a lot better if i wouldn't have had those two things to throw me off track.

also don't do like the guy next to me and fall asleep during the test. waste of 50 dollars.

they make study books, but those are really boring. i'd find a math teacher that you respect, like a lot, and think you'd have fun around to coach you on your weak points. my weak point is geometry, and my math section was chock full of it. when i take it again in june i feel i'll do better because i've had this help. (and a friend of mine wrote a code on his TI that finds all the missing angles/sides of triangles if you plug in the only thing you know about it. it's pretty sweet. =D )

just don't get wigged out over it. yeah it's an important test, but you either know the information or you don't. don't let not knowing an answer trip you up. if you can't get it in a short amount of time then skip it as that won't cost you any points at all, but marking a wrong answer will.
