saw the largest coyote i've ever seen in person tonite

Sign in to disble this ad
came out between 2 houses, crossed the street...i hissed at it, it just looked at me like it couldn't be bothered and kept trotting

i called the city, after a second call where i spoke with someone who understood, i'm expecting a trap to be brought out

there are 3-year old triplets at one of the houses it came from, and we have an infant in the house, so it's a shame i can't take care of it myself in the city limits

i seriously thought for a second this might be a wolf-dog (i have a 100lb malamute/timber wolf that currently lives with my brother), because it is so tall...i've seen a lot of coyotes, but i've never seen one this large in my life, i'd estimate 65-70 lbs judging from the stature as compared to the wolf dog i used to live with, which is insanely big, outrageously big, for a coyote...i think the largest on record is 75 and it was a northern variety up towards canada...most around here are 40 lbs or so

needless to say, i told my wife to keep the baby inside and keep her eyes and ears open and we're telling the neighbors tomorrow...they've complained of coyotes before, but i don't think they understand the predation danger with small children

Coyotes are becoming a real problem in the cities. I saw two dead ones on the road the other day. But they were nowhere near the size you're talking about. I'd say it most they were about 45 pounds. Usually if you see one there's a bunch of them around. It's kind of rare to only see one.

Get a gun and a camera, because as you know, no pics/audio clips, no *insert objects here".

yeah, i told the guy with the city that although there have been a few around here before, i normally wouldn't call in...this was a beast though, i'd have never in my wildest dreams imagined one this size, especially this far inside the city

unfortunately, no pics at this time...hopefully the trap will work

Coyote's are cool. They occasionally steal a few chickens from my folks farm, but they gotta eat too, you know.

I'm guessing if you don't leave your infant children outside, unattended in the middle of the back 80, with a crippled hen attached to it with a short rope, the coyotes probably won't haul them off.

[Coyote]

Humans are being a real problem in the jungles. Two of them killed my wife&kids. They build these big things where we used to live for thousand of years and yet they complain about us and kill us.

I don't know which are bigger or more numerous around here, the coyotes, or the skunks. Both have killed much of our livestock. Both are usually fat and healthy looking. I don't care for either.

Plenty of food in the city. Garbage cans, road kill, peoples cats, etc.

I have seen them so scrawney that they looked like cartoon drawings.

They can have all of them as far as I'm concerned. Stupid chickens.

Some friends of mine in Minnesota have wolves in their neighborhood. I'd be a lot more worried about those than coyotes.

Coyotes are starting to come back in record numbers up in my area. My friend's a farmer and drives some really big farm equipment and he says he sees them almost every day when he's in the fields. He also says that black bears are starting to pop up now and again.

Coyotes are back in RI in packs now. Domestic pets are a nice snack for them. Pay good attention to your pets.

Many areas of the country including Texas have cougars/mountain lions. There have been many several highly publicized cougar attacks and deaths in Colorado and California.

We take away their land, want scenic communities then complain about wild life like they are intruding on us?

We now have coyotes, foxes, turkeys, & Beavers around us and a lot less rabbits.

We should eliminate all the predatory animals, cut down all the trees (messy) and make guitars out of PVC

Black bears in Ohio? Cool.

When I lived in northern Wisconsin I would happen across black bears all the time. I've never heard of them hurting anyone. That's not to say I would walk up to one and pat it on the head. . .
