Sax players post in this thread

Hey,

So I found a saxophone (got it when I was a kid, never played it ) and I put it on Craigslist. It's a Yamaha YAS 23. I was just wondering what you guys think it's worth. I have a guy who wants to pay me $450 for it, but I'm not sure if I should take him up on it. I advertised it as $900 because it sells new for $1600. Am I totally off base here? Should I take the $450 or hold out for a better offer?

It's the Squier of the sax world. You're going to take a huge hit.

Yeah I'd take the $450. I had a really nice Conn alto that I spent over $1000 on. When I decided to sell it, I tried for years to sell it and got zero interest. It finally sold after like three years and I only got about $300 for it on ebay.

I think you should take the $450 and run with it. I play sax, and the pads are probably going to need replaced, the rods might need some help. If you didn't clean it before you stored it the mold smell will be awful.

Best of luck, but used saxophones are not worth much,
and you can get that model for $1200 new if you take just a second to look.

That is a student model, there's probably enough on eBay to get a real feel for the street value. $450 is probably good, though.

i repair horns and yeah thats a good going rate for a yamaha student alto. Probably one or two of the pads need to be replaced and you can usually have a shop give you a free estimate for how much that would be. We charge $58 plus pads. An alto repad is $350. So you would be doing someone a good deed by selling it at that price. If you wanted to check craigslist or ebay to see what other have gone for you can do that. Otherwise i'd take it while you can. You might be able to get 5-600 if you wait a little bit but that can be annoying.

If the sax is in need of repair it sounds like a fiar price. I need to take mine out and learn to improv.
