Hey guys,
I have an interview next week for a school counselor job. I've worked in mental health for 15+ years, and some of my experience was earned in schools, but I've never worked for a district. I currently work in a district now, but I'm not employed by them. I'm a contracted therapist through a mental health agency. Any school counselors here? Any public district employees that can give me words of wisdom going into this interview? I know I'm going to need to read up on all the special educaton stuff, as much of it has been forgotten since I finished grad school.
Anything else is greatly appreciated... Even from asshats like Daren.
P.S. Oh, and just to get this out of the way from the get go, here...

-Mike | So my pink Hello Kitty socks clash with my bright red shirt, yellow polka dot tie, and dark brown slacks then???

Her role as a therapist/psychologist is pretty minimal. I would say that she isn't really working that aspect of her job as much as she is involved in the day to day discipline of our students, and the administrative duties of our school. In fact, there has been a complaint that she (a sexy 25 year old asian chick fresh out school ) is not qualified for a lot of the jobs she has been thrown into (observing teachers, etc). You want to make sure they are upfront with you about what the scope of your duties are under this position. |

Definitely go with blue socks. The green shirt is fine, but I would personally go with something more conservative. Whatever color shirt you pick, make sure to tuck it in.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the age group. It's High School. I had the option to do a dual certification when I did my Masters, but I don't like little people enough to work with them daily!
I agree with knowing the scope of duties beforehand. All schools approach the counselor's roles differently. I've worked with some schools where the counselor was just that. A counselor. I've also worked with others where the counselor turned into the trash can, in that any time there was additonal administrative work to do, it got dumped in the counselor's lap. That is high on my list of questions when I meet next week.
Thanks all for your input so far!

Different way of delivery in 2009, but same concept.

Well, I guess he didn't do nothing - he did manage to marry a female student about a month after she graduated.
