My friend's father was going to toss this to the curb but I rescued it.
It's a wire recorder. Sort of a precursor to the tape recorder. Many of these were used during WWII for keeping records in the field and while flying aircraft. They were only made for a few years and were kind of troublesome to use.
I got two reels of wire with it and hope to be able to play them and see if there is anything on them. The guy who was throwing this away said he's had it for decades and has no idea who had it before him or what might be recorded on the reels. I'm currently talking to some people who know how these things work to get it into proper working order before I try to play it. It does power up, though and seems to work OK mechanically.
Cool old stuff.

Record some vocals in that thing. Mic the playback and get it into a DAW with your other tracks. That would sound sweet. I could use something like this with my dub stuff. |

I can't wait to hear its "warm" and "tubey" sound.

I like the way you think.
Assuming I can get this thing fired up and working, I'll have to give this a try.

I think any of these possibilities should make it worth a little bit more than $50.

| | | | Is this where "we just got a wire" comes from? I always thought it was in reference to Morse Code.
