Scottish government being useless again

[disclaimer] I realise this is political in nature (what isn't these days), but it is not intended to form any basis of argument, just to raise awareness of a rather unfair control of accomidation, Mods delete if you feel it breaks the rules [/disclaimer]

This sucks, and I went to sign the petition, but there's no way I'm giving my address out for the issue so I had to retract my signature

News to me.

Seems a strange thing to do though. It looks like the only people who will be affected by this are students but what can the government gain from it?

Colour me confused

I didnt sign it for the same reason as Freak.

Fair enough guys, I don't see the point of it either. But dundee uni being on the ball as per usual, that email was passed around the dundee newsletter the day i signed the petition and after that i found out that it has already gone to discussion.

I'd don't see the point either, including dundee uni, abertay and dundee college, there are over 45,000 students studying at dundee alone. While obviously not all are staying in HMO accomidation, it's alot of people to tick off. And thats only in dundee!

It affects non-students in rented accommodation too and I'm behind the petition to prevent this. I would sign if it wasn't for the fact there's no choice about giving out your address.

There are very good reasons to bring in a quota.

Housing prices have been driven through the roof by people investing in property to rent to students, and the properties are often badly maintained.

Student flats bring in no council tax, bumping up the cost for everyone else.

They can be a source of anti-social behaviour (wait until you have kids to see your definition of anti-social behaviour change), and they affect community cohesion (it's difficult to maintain community when your neighbours change every year and are absent for long periods of it).

I think that what is being called a "crisis" in Britain - where people cannot afford to buy a new home could be easily solved by having more and better quality rented accommodation.

I have stayed with friends in Paris and cities in Belgium, Holland and Germany - where nobody expects to own their home and everybody rents. But they have much better security of tenancy and much better conditions of tenure - landlords cannot put up rents and other charges to push them out.
